In the view of Scelta Mushrooms, the days of can-based preserving are numbered. This is because the production process uses up a lot of energy. This is why we have looked into sustainable alternatives with our production company Comé in Horst aan de Maas. The first solution we found were more environmentally-friendly buckets. Solution number two are the Ecobags for bulk consumers. These keep our mushrooms fresh and tasty. Moreover, the Ecobag is more user-friendly and environmentally-friendly than cans. The manufacturing process is more energy-efficient and there is significantly less waste.
Sterilised pouches for the food service and retail market represent a further step in the process of innovation. We no longer use any chemical additives -so-called E-numbers.
In classic vegetable canning, salt and various acids are added to stabilise colour, flavour and pH. We have developed a procedure whereby mushrooms are boiled in their own juice, along with a variant involving the addition of concentrate produced in our factory in Belfeld. 100% of the juice comes from the mushroom. Again, we do not add any E-numbers. In the near future, we will begin delivering flexible, sterilised packaging units under the motto “use the juice” – because the juice makes an ideal base for soups, stocks and sauces.
